Bow To Your Queens
The casting for this movie was PERFECT! Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande were an incredible duo and gave mesmerising performances. For every scene and every song your eyes are fixed on them. It was a moment that’ll go down in the history books. They took such pride and care of these characters that are so famous and admired by so many. Cynthia gave us such emotion and did such justice for Elphaba. Ariana gave a comedic performance of a lifetime and brought such life and humor to Glinda in a way I wasn’t expecting. This is how it’s done! They gave us an experience that you’ll never forget.

The Standout Star Was…
OK, as much as Cynthia and Ariana were both equally talented and nailed every performance, Ariana really stood out for the majority of the movie. I wasn’t expecting this at all. This isn’t to say Cynthia was bad or worse than Ariana, not at all! Ariana had a lot of great scenes and her character was hilarious in every moment. I felt I was drawn to her so I didn’t miss a comedic beat. I laughed so much and I was entranced by her vocals. She also has some great numbers were she was still giving us some comedy in her numbers. What a great performance and I wouldn’t be shocked if there was a few nominations in her future for this role.

Wickedly Good Sets
We knew the that with a big budget movie like this would include some mega sets to create the magical world of OZ. But the scale of practical sets is incredible to watch. You’re fully immersed into the world of OZ with practical sets of Munchkinland, Shiz University, Emerald City, and many more. I prefer movies with practical sets to films with a ridiculous amount of CGI. Too much CGI sometimes takes you out of the magic but with sets you feel like you’re in the world. The art department should give themselves a clap on the back.

What A Cast
Besides from our leading ladies, this movie also brings an ensemble of cast which is 2nd to none. Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Yeoh, Jonathan Bailey and Peter Dinklage were great inclusions to the cast who gave great performances and musical numbers. I actually didn’t realise Peter Dinklage was the goat and one of scenes proper brought a tear to my eye. Jeff Goldblums had a very small part but obviously very important. Michelle Yeoh is just a queen who has a star studded presence. And then there’s Jonathan Bailey…

Hello Mr Bridgerton
Never had there been a welcomed distraction like Jonathan Bailey. He played Fiyero Tigelaar so well. He was made for this role with the smolder, the charm, those eyes. I wasn’t prepared for his musical numbers though which blew me away. I knew that he’s had some musical experience prior to Wicked but I haven’t seen any of them. The man can dance people! And he can sing…he can swoon…he can dazzle! I was happily pleased and ready for more in part 2! Only a year to go…

An Ending That Defies Gravity
We were all anxiously waiting for it…and it didn’t disappoint. The ending of part 1 of Wicked famously ends on the musical number of Defying Gravity. I was weeping! Not only were the vocals just out of this world from Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, the dramatic scene was intensely performed but the visuals that played out in that scene were perfectly captured by Jon M. Chu In a way I couldn’t of imagined. It was true my magical and I couldn’t believe my eyes. And that infamous note by Cynthia Erivo was effortless! I was singing all the way home.

No Real Glicked Competition
Last year, we had the cinema cultural phenomenon “Barbenheimer”. This year we have “Glicked” (even though I think “Wickator” is better) but there’s no really competition here let’s be honest. Gladiator II had the same standard of high level sets and cast ensemble but Wicked has a better story and all round experience. Yes, there’s no singing and dancing in Gladiator II (but could you imagine that lol) but Wicked is a more entertaining movie. I expect Wicked to win the box office and more awards.

Summary
“For lack of a better pun Wicked Part 1 was Wickedly Great. Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande out their hearts and souls into every performance, scene and song. The film was perfectly directed by Jon M. Chu who gave us a magical movie which was visually stunning and brings the world to life. It was such emotional ride and it’s been a while since a movie made me cry. I can’t wait for part 2 but it’ll be a long year wait but worth every second!”
