Was This A Filler Film?
This sounds kind of harsh, but it’s also how I feel. The movie has got on a really bad time slot within the movie calendar. It’s also the first (proper) Marvel movie after the success of Deadpool and Wolverine. Yes, I’m prepared. I’m pretending like Kraven didn’t happen. The marvel calendar for the rest of the year has a lot of hype. We’ve got Daredevil next, then Thunderbolts* and the fantastic four first steps in the summer. Yes, this movie introduces new characters and as a continuation of the Captain America story line for Sam, but other than that, it doesn’t really add much value to the MCU but fills a whole hole in the MCU calendar. Sorry Anthony!

Fight and Flight
My favourite scene within the whole movie was the fight scene in the air around Celestial Island. He gave me proper Top Gun vibes to that sort of level and standard. The action scenes were mind blowing at times, like really cool! The flips and tricks in the air kept me on edge and on the edge of my seat. Also, because it was based around celestial Island, it showed the scale of the celestial and was visually fantastic to watch. there’s a moment where Captain America is hanging off it and I thought that was great. I’ve been waiting a long time to see that island back in the MCU.

Hulk out
Firstly, I must say that Harrison Ford makes an excellent president. he was serious when he needed to be definitely had that aura of a presidential leader. The Red Hulk was an anticipated moment for the movie and they really had us waiting for it. The anticipation was real! When he finally started hauling out, it was a spectacular sight. Firstly, the level of detail was incredible, especially how the gunshots hit his skin and bruised ever so slightly. I enjoyed him destroying the White House as it was visually great and also from a person of perspective. The CGI was great. I’m glad they took the extra time and you could really tell that was Harrison Ford.

Where Are The Jokes?
I don’t know if it’s because I’m used to it, but I expected a lot more humour and jokes within this movie. It’s kind of a Marvel standard now especially with within action scenes, but the comedy element kind of fell flat. Anthony Mackie is a funny guy and probably the one of the most naturally funny actors within the Marvel Universe. However, I feel like there was a lot of potential for him to have comedic lines and those were sort of stolen away from him. Yes, there were a few moments (mostly at the beginning) but not as funny or as many as I would’ve liked. I feel like his new side kick took more of the comic relief this time around. Maybe this is just the character becoming more “serious”.

Summary
Brave New World certainly was different. My issue is it didn’t feel like a proper Marvel movie and actually more of a spin off. The action scenes were certainly impressive especially the Hulk scenes and Celestial Island but the story felt dry and didn’t really add much value to the universe in my eyes. By the end it felt like everything return to normal and is business as usual. The movie felt like a nicotine patch to help with my marvel cravings until daredevil and fantastic four come along.
