Same Bridget, Just A New Chapter
Bridget is all grown up with two kids and a house but unfortunately is back on the market. Not a spoiler as it’s in the trailer, that Mark Darcy has passed away. It’s all very sad but a real story that many will relate too. Bridget herself is the same olde Bridget. She might have a new family home, a new life and now a widow, but she’s the same goofy, ridiculous, funny Bridget. Everything is still set in London, maybe a new party but we still see her old famous neighbourhood. She returns to her old job and is surrounded by her original friends from previous movies. Shadows of Mr Darcy come and go, but this time it’s all about embracing new love after loss.

I Came To Laugh And Cried For 2 Hours
Seriously what the hell?! What I loved the most about the other movies is how much they made me laugh. Maybe as a single girl, I find those movies comforting in her pursuit to find love but this time it’s got a new angle. They’ve killed off Mr Darcy?! She finally found love and now he’s gone! So one she has to find love all over again but shes also being haunted by his ghost?! They were so beutifully done though, and everything time they talked about him, I was crying into my popcorn. I know this unfortunately happens but I was hoping for 2 hours of laughs and instead I came out with all my mascara cried off!

Another Cougar movie?
I love this new genre based around older women dating younger men. Personally, I hate the term cougar but what else can you call it? There are so many of these movies recently and I’m really enjoying this acknowledgment and normalisation of this age gap from a women’s perspective. Bridget’s new boy is cute! And good for her. I love everyone’s reactions to them and how funny they are together. That pool scene was a bit ridiculous but very on point for a Bridget movie.

Daniel Cleaver The Dirty B*Tch
They killed off Darcy and brought Cleaver back from the dead! But we needed him really. Hugh Grant provides much need comedy relief when the story was getting too sad. He’s hilariously brilliant as always and I really enjoyed how he fitted into this story which is probably different to what you expect to happen. His presence is much appreciated and much needed for this movie. Filthy as ever.

What An Ensemble!
Seriously what a cast. Firstly we had the original cast come back including Renée Zellweger, Emma Thompson, Hugh Grant and Colin Firth. Plus all Bridget’s family and family. But we also get new faces including Leo Woodall and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Then there’s Bridget’s kids who were so good too.

Summary
The forty installment might bring a lot of tears, but it also brings joy, some laughs, an outrageous sexy pool scene and some old faces. Is it my favourite Bridget Jones movies? No, but it’s still a lovely movie to watch with friends, family or a loved one. It shows love and loss in a modern era for a new generation to enjoy and for the original movie lovers to see Bridget’s next chapter.
