Bravo Zoë!
Blink Twice was something special. Zoë Kravitz has proved that she’s got the skill and talent to direct, no question. Blink Twice is not only a brilliantly written movie but the direction is something new, exciting and original to watch. The framing of some of the scenes was crafty and showed a new angle that I wasn’t expecting. Each act was filled with creativity and imagination which didn’t follow the same formula we’ve seen time and time again. You can see how much time and effort that went into this movie from development to post. This took a lot of passion and imagination. I’ve not liked a directorial debut this much since Jordan Peele’s Get Out. I can’t wait to see what Zoë Kravitz comes up with next.

Welcome to the Dark Side Tatum
Tatum is typically known as the movie heart throb, the love interest, the best friend and the lead. Not this time. I love seeing an actor throw a wrench in their movie choices and show their talent in unexpected ways. This was one of those times. Tatum is shocking, dark and intimidating which blind sides the audience. He plays a spine chilling villain and it was a fantastic watch. It was a real treat to see amother side to Tatums acting abilities.

Too Many Familiar Faces?
I knew Channing Tatum was in this movie but I didn’t expect to see so many other recognizable actors in the mix too. I was shocked when I saw Christian Slater (Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves), then pops up Kyle MacLachlan (Fallout) but the most oddest entry to the roster was Haley Joel Osment (The Sixth Sense). Yes, that kid who said “I see dead people!” that’s him! I would have preferred less known actors if I’m honest to make the movie feel more real. I spent a lot of time distracted because of them.

Scared Sh*tless
I spent the majority of this movie feeling very anxious. The build was done extremely well. You feel like you’re seeing it through the women’s eyes instead of the audience and you find things out when they do. It wasn’t predictable, kept you guessing and the anticipation to seeing the climax of the movie lingers just enough. It was a wild ride for entertainment purposes but also made me feel very scared as a woman. Blink Twice was so well written, broke the wheel of standard horror movies and showed just enough to get the message across. The less you saw the more your mind fills in the gaps. Other directors should take note.

Strong & Smart Women
Thank you Zoë Kravitz for making a thriller which doesn’t make the women look stupid. There’s no running and hiding, screaming through, hoping for a big strong man to save them. No, instead we have smart women figuring this out, a fight on our hands and showing pure survival skills. Yes, they get tricked onto the island but they own up to their mistake and figure out how they were deceived. The writing is so clever it actually has the women verbally sending a message to women in the audience. I think the actresses involved all did incredible performances. Our leading lady Naomi Ackie was incredible and some of her close up scenes got me feeling sick to my stomach. Adria Arjona was also a remarkable talent on this feature.

The Ending
I was all aboard and the ending was great. But the last 5 minutes, I’m not a fan of. I didn’t get it. Then I thought about it, got it, but I don’t like it. I was actually quite disappointed but despite the last 5 minutes, I’m a fan of the most part of this movie.

Summary
This isn’t a movie, it’s a educational experience. Not just on the topic of sexual violence but in the art of movie making too. Zoë Kravitz spent years making a #MeToo movie that made noise on screen but in the industry too. She broke the mold on directing and made it her own, something new and exciting to watch. Blink Twice is intense, thrilling, visually stunning and dark. Is is a must see and Zoë Kravitz is one to watch for future features.
