Moana Is All Grown Up
A few years have passed for Moana since we last saw her. She was a curious and adventure hungry 16 in the first movie. Now she’s 19 and… adulting. She’s embracing her responsibilities leading her people and running her island. You can definitely tell she’s visually a little older since the first movie but within the story you hear a lot about her making ‘”grown up” decisions. I’m sorry but are her mum and dad retired or slacking off? Poor Moana is stressed out and putting her life on the line once again when she’s still in her teens.

New Crew
At least this time round she’s got some company on her next adventure apart from the chicken. I actually really enjoyed getting to know some of her people on the island joined her selling around the ocean. I think each character had different likable personalities and skills. Still not quite sure why the farmer was there, but his grumpiness is quite comedic. Was quite concerned that the male character might be a romantic element, but thankfully that was not the case.

Same Old Maui
well, Maui hasn’t changed a bit he still a cheeky chappy with some fun moments but he doesn’t really give much else in the sequel. It really was just the same stuff repeated and there wasn’t much extra or added to his character. Saying that the end was quite emotional and spectacular to watch but other than that it felt a bit stale. I was looking forward to his singing number, but that fell a bit flat too. It just wasn’t anywhere near as good as “You’re welcome”.

Lil Sis Is A Big Win
The absolute standout star to this movie was Moana’s new little sister who is a sassy little individual and more for it if she got a spin off I’ll be quite happy. Maybe a short film? She was really funny and absolutely adorable. She really brought the magic back to this movie. It’s a shame that she wasn’t in it a lot. The only reason I would want a movie to see more of this little sister and watch her grow up.

Slapped Together Story
I was very disappointed in this story line as some parts didn’t make sense and the answers just came from thin air in most cases. Yes, it’s a kid story and quite a lot of the kids in the audience loved it but this story was thrown together with little or no imagination. For example, Moana is trying to find more people on other islands and find a mug with a mysterious symbol on an abandoned island. Then suddenly out of nowhere one of the villages finds drawings of the symbol with a whole backstory of where these villages are? Which means that she was out sailing the ocean tor no reason when all the answers were in a hut on her island. And don’t get me started on the comet that suddenly appears and doesn’t disappear for over a day, then blows up.

Summary
This movie might be filled with some new likable characters but lacks an adventurous story line which we enjoyed from the first movie. Also, this movie seriously lacks any catchy tunes to singalong to. Unfortunately, Moana 2 left me disappointed after all the hype from Disney and the excitement from the trailer. The ending was quite emotional, but other than that, it’s nothing special. Moana 2 is going into my list of random Disney sequels I’ll never watch again.
